Ticket for the Show :) |
Hello everybody! :)
Sorry that I couldn't write my experiences from the past 3 days in time, but it was just too much. So let's start with saturday: The Tokyo Game Show 2013
Another German Word: Messe |
Actually, coming to Tokyo Game Show was a coincidence. I know about this event since years, but when I came to Japan, I didn't really thought about going to it. Maybe because others things needed my attention :D But on a faithful day, last thursday by the way, I heard the name in the radio ^^
So I thought like "WOW I have to go there!". After 5 minutes of checking into the internet, I had all informations I needed and this morning I woke up at 7am and got ready to go.
Friends had given me the advice to wake up at 5am and go to the convention as soon as possible because you will have to wait hours to get your ticket and then to come in. I gave it a thought but hey, that's even for me too crazy :P
And I doubted that I would have to wait this long like they predicted.
And guess what? I was right! Buyaaa! ;)
After 5 minutes of waiting to get my ticket, I just waited one hour until I finally walked in ^^ If I would have get up at 5am ... Better not think about it ;) Anyway, I was finally there: Tokyo Game Show 2013.

The crowd |
In my life, I have attended multiple times the Games Convention in Leipzig, my hometown. Until it got cancelled because of ... there are many theories about the real reason. Anyway, in comparison to the Games Convention the Tokyo Game Show was smaller. About half of the area was used. This fact confused me at first because I thought the whole time that the Tokyo Game Show had to be bigger because ... it's in Tokyo, I guess :D

Nevertheless, it was a huge fun and a new experience, because unlike the Games Convention a) you see Japanese games from which will many not be published in Europe, so it's a rare opportunity to see them and b) the fair hostess are more beautiful ;)
But anyway, when I looked at the Japanese games, you see some major differences. For example, in many games you have much text. Especially RolePlayingGames and I think that this is especially in this genre good. To get more immerse with the fictional world, you need background and character that seems to live. So many funny dialogs and explanations are necessary. Many players outside of Japan don't like this fact, because they have "too much to read". Maybe I don't have a problem with that because I was raised with books? :D
The main reason for the "isolation" of many Japanese Games seems to be that the Japanese market is big enough for many companies and they don't need to sell outside of Japan. Besides, the exports are taxed really high, from what I've heard. So Japan keeps its products in the country. A little bit sad for player like me who love these games :(
Be honest, how you could you not take fotos? ;) |
But (besides some of the fair hostess) I liked the live presentations the best. Without knowing the schedule, I was lucky enough to see Hideo Kojima, the godfather of the Metal Gear Solid franchise and so to watch the presentation of "Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain" with him commenting and explaining. Later on, I also saw "Watchdogs" which is another great game even it's not from Japan ;)

Release: 22nd February 2014 |
I can say that great games will come and I will hopefully get some copies of "Japan only" titles until I fly back. Should be possible, because the PS3 games have no regional code, so I hope I can play them in Germany ^^
Besides MGS I'm really looking forward to Yakuza Ishin. It reminds a bit of GTA because besides the missions (where you slash many opponents ;) you can do many activities like cooking, farming or even Kabuki. I watched the presentation for which I waited about 45 minutes and it seems to be totally awesome :)
Yakuza Ishin - can't wait to play it ^^ |
What else? For actually playing you have to wait really long. Because I thought of that, I visited all booths first, took the pictures, watched (per coincidences) the mentioned live presentations before that.
Why could they all play before me? ;) |
To play a game, everyone had to line up for getting tickets first. You could choose the titles you wanted to play, but actually many ones were so popular that you would have to wait longer than the fair was open. So these tickets were sold out.
Ticket to Success? |
I wanted to play the new PS4, so I just took "Blacklight: Retribution" which just sounded good and waited. And waited. And ... after 2 hours I finally got to the game. The game itself was an ego-shooter. Quite nice but not something outstanding. So I couldn't really see what the PS4 can actually do, but it was nice just to play a console which is not in sale right now :D
2 hours of waiting, should have brought a book ;) |
I really enjoyed the Tokyo Game Show, maybe next year I will be in town again ;)
And because I so many of them, here some impressions of the Show:
The holy entrance |
Hostess from Sega |

Of course, E-Sportler are even working during Tokyo Game Show ;) |
Nice Beat-Em-Up! Who wouldn't want to see Ruffy vs. Naruto fight? :D |
Man, I would have liked to play this game too :) |
I don't know if there were more hostess or visitors at Toko Game Show :D |
Bye Bye Tokyo Game Show! Maybe see you next year ;) |
For the German and Japanese viewers, here is a good video about the opinions of the other viewers: http://video.golem.de/games/11696/was-besucher-der-tokyo-game-show-2013-denken.html This is mainly focused on the PS4 topic, but anyway a good one :)
